Confessional Poetry is a venture into the art of storytelling through hip hop, fairytale, and poetry. It is a reflection on how hip hop and folklore can be used to weave together autobiographical truths with narrative fiction, allowing one an escape to find beauty, understand oneself, and have respite from the colder moments in life.
Inspired by the life and art of Sylvia Plath and Frida Kahlo, and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Confessional Poetry is an autobiographical work of fantastical impressionism. Sonically, Digable Planets meets Björk and Portishead; while lyrically, it is a handshake among Loretta Lynn, Nina Simone, Redman, and MF DOOM, advocating for women’s voices with a bit of funk and the grime of underground hip hop.
